The biography of Frida Kahlo for kids

On July 6, 1907, in Mexico, one of the greatest artists in the world was born.

Her name was Frida, and she lived in a blue house in Coyoacán, Mexico City, with her three sisters.

When she was 5 years old, doctors told her parents that little Frida had a disease called Polio. Because of that, one of her legs became thinner and shorter than the other.

Time passed, and one day, returning from school, Frida got on the bus, and a tram collided with them very hard. It was a very serious accident that would mark her life forever.

After surviving the horrible accident, she had to spend more than 3 months without moving.

Frida wanted to be a doctor before the accident. During her recovery, to keep her from getting bored, they set up a special easel for her so she could paint while lying down.

And that’s where her love for art began.

Frida continued painting and decided to show her paintings to a famous artist named Diego Rivera. Upon seeing Frida’s paintings, Diego was impressed by her talent! They became friends, fell in love, and got married when Frida was 21.

Frida continued painting, and by the age of 32, she was already very famous, traveling to many parts of the world to exhibit her works.

Later on, she became a teacher at an art school in Mexico. Her students were called “Los Fridos.” Frida Kahlo’s talent remains globally recognized, and her paintings are showcased in the world’s most important museums.

As you can see, Frida Kahlo was a very strong and independent woman who never stopped fighting and pursuing her dreams, despite everything that happened to her from a young age.
